What's New
NJPIRG just launched a new campaign! We’re working to make sure Governor Corzine reduces New Jersey’s global warming pollution by 20% below current levels by 2020 and pledges to make a 70% reduction by 2050. This summer, we’re going door-to-door in towns across the state, organizing meet-ups with our members and teaming up with local scientists to show the governor that to solve global warming, we have to do our part here in New Jersey. Read our release.
How You Can Help
Ask Governor Corzine to reduce New Jersey’s global warming pollution by 20% below current levels by 2020 and pledge to make a 70% reduction by 2050.
Brief Summary
Global warming is a real problem for New Jersey. Of all the effects of global warming, sea level rise is the one that will hit our state the hardest. If nothing is done to reverse global warming, sea levels would rise 2 to 4 feet in the next century, which would submerge all our beaches under water and cause chronic flooding on 9% of New Jersey’s land.
Fortunately, global warming is solvable. We have the solutions at our disposal, our political leaders have only to employ them. We’ve had a lot of success here in New Jersey adopting policies to reduce global warming pollution, but much more must be done. Scientists say that to reverse the worst of global warming we must cut global warming pollution by more than half by the middle of this century.
That’s why NJPIRG is working to make sure Governor Corzine reduces New Jersey’s global warming pollution by 20% below current levels by 2020 and pledges to make a 70% reduction by 2050. If he takes these steps, the governor will put New Jersey well on the way to solving global warming.
